Putting on the writs

Although the Prime Minister has called the election, the writs won’t be issued until Wednesday 17 October, which means you still have until 8pm that day to enrol to vote and until 23 October to change your address details. Need more info? Head here.

Organic Shmorganic

Did you know that the organic industry in Australia is currently self-regulated? Despite several groups which certify manufacturers and farmers based on organic guidelines supplied by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service, the laws are very, shall we say, organic. Cash for Comments writer Cam investigated what this means for us as consumers. Story here.

Versatile & for a cause

You may think bandanas aren’t for you but what if they were hot bandanas designed by Industrie to raise money for CanTeen’s 13th National Bandana Day? Get yours now and don’t forget there are other ways to use a bandana (see funky Japanese-style gift wrapping or how to make your own swag on a stick). More tips here.

Is fresh really best?

Warning: certain ideas may disturb some readers.

The don’t-gloss-over glossary

Australian food manufacturers aren’t required to indicate if their products are suitable for vegetarians. So you probably won’t hear if you’re getting a mouthful of boiled down horse’s hooves (AKA gelatine) or supping on rennet, tallow and isinglass? Something to read before going vego.

’I made this video using photos taken in Australia and overseas. I don't think you have to do something huge to take action. For me, getting out and about can make me appreciate stuff, and avoid pollution.’
